The 180 degree turns are fun, but it can also be controlled at lower speeds. My 5-year-old is not prepared to go all out yet, and he uses the throttle slightly for a slower ride. It seems very safe as long as it used off of traffic and obstacles. Definitelyfor paved surfaces, not grass. The charging time is 12 hours so that it can only be used once a day in general. It was 40 degrees F (now about 4 degrees C) and we had it for one hour. Lost time for the change rider, I guess it took about 40 minutes. Maybe it will last longer in warm weather.
